Guide for Judging Health Information on the Internet
The internet is a wonderful tool to use for research for health information. However, not all websites are reliable!
The Health on the Net Foundation has established eight principles for providers of health or medical information on the internet:
- Financial Disclosure
- Advertising Policy
A problem with the HON Code is that it is self-regulated. The Website provider may, in good conscience, feel that the principles of the HON Code are being represented by the Website, however, the individual may not be qualified to actually determine medical validity.
The Medical Library Association has established a list of the ten top websites for finding medical/health information for consumers.
